70 years old today, Phil was the Grateful Dead’s bass player for 30+ years, joining with Jerry Garcia and The Warlocks (and it was Phil who found an album by another band called “The Warlocks” in a record store) without ever having played a bass guitar…he started out on violin and trumpet in school. He still plays with “The Dead”, who without Jerry are apparently no longer Grateful, but still quite popular.

Heather Mills was forced to have her artificial leg swabbed for explosives at London Heathrow airport, Sky News reported Monday. The 42-year-old and ex-wife of Paul McCartney sparked a security alert at London’s Heathrow Airport after her false limb triggered alarms as she passed through checks on her way to a departure lounge for her flight to the US.
A spokeswoman for airport owner BAA said: “She was swabbed because something set off the alarm in the metal detector archway.”Staff could not see inside the leg so it was swabbed instead. This would be the same protocol if a passenger had a cast on a broken arm or leg.” Read more

There are millions of websites out there. Many of them are unique, either in small ways or in large ones. But the individual impact of any particular site on the overall Internet is generally negligible, if there’s any impact at all.
Not so with the fifteen sites here. These sites changed the Internet, mostly for good, in substantial ways. Included here is everything from Geocities (which could probably be blamed entirely, either directly or indirectly, for every ugly web design “trend” that’s ever been) to Wikipedia (which has made information almost universally accessible) to Google (which has changed or influenced virtually everything online).
1. Wikipedia
Changed the way we find information. Before Wikipedia, most online encyclopedias were either sorely lacking in information, or required you to have a paid subscription to access their content. Wikipedia changed all that by not only allowing anyone to view the content for free, but also by allowing individual users to review and update content, making it more complete and accurate overall. Wikipedia also brought crowdsourcing and user-generated content to the mainstream online, making both much more viable and valuable.

Naked hiking is apparently a huge thing (pun intended) in Germany. Now, those wanting to climb the alps with their bits out for all of nature to see are welcome to at the recently opened 18-km trail near the town of Dankerode.
The trail is sure to be a hit, though women are disappointed because it’s not as long as the men had claimed.

Do you ever remember your old-fashioned sweets when you were still in your childhood years? Most fun times of our lives were supported in memory by the Great American candies of our childhood. Take a trip down memory lane and remember some of those sugary candies that made our lives much better.
Remember the Whatchamacallit?
“Chewity, chocolatey, crunchity flavor. Whatchamacallit ahh … ahh …” Am I the only one who still manages to get this jingle stuck in my head fifteen years later? More old candies here
