At 72 years old, it would make sense if once and a while Keith Richards didn’t feel the kind of energy he once did on stage. But, in fact, it’s quite the opposite.
In a new CBS Sunday Morning feature airing December 4th, Richards opens up about his everlasting enthusiasm for playing music. “I can’t imagine not being enthusiastic about it,” he says. “And as long as I’ve got the guys, a solid group of guys around me that feel the same way – then I start to feel immortal for a little while. On stage, sometimes, I feel immortal.”
Mick Jagger also appears alongside Richards in the segment, where he admits the band could have easily stopped touring 20 years ago. But the band doesn’t stop and think about why it continues to tour. “So I don’t really explain that,” he says. “It’s not something I analyze. You create a momentum yourself. And then something interesting comes up, which is outside the ordinary – doing a blues album in three days, you know, reinvigorates your interest somewhat.”
The interview will air this Sunday, December 4th at 9:30am EST on CBS.
