For this week’s beer, Matt and I took a ride down to Tacoma to check out a brewery called Pacific Brewing and Malting Company. I’d never seen their beer before, but Matt had heard great things about it. So, we went for a hike, then off for liquid refreshments. PB&MC is a new, old brewery. Been there for two years, but used to be there back in the days of prohibition. It’s not huge, but it has a great feel, exposed brick, old photos, character and charm. The guy pouring the beers was super friendly, helpful and let us try the beer before committing. I know, you’re ready already to hear about THE BEER. Ok, in a word…YUM! I had a Potomac Citra IPA. Matt had the 1897 Pale Lager. I’m a big fan of Citra hops, even though they do lend a hint of ‘cat pee’ to the beer. Strange that something so icky could make a beer taste so good. I also tried their Grapefruit Citra, which was wonderfully refreshing on a warm day. Matt loved his beer as well, and we chilled out in the comfortable tap room. They have a games, tables, and a really great vibe. I haven’t seen this beer ‘up North’ where I live (Belltown), but I’ll certainly keep an eye out for it. I expect to be seeing it in more places, as this is top notch brew.
