Sarah’s Beer of the Week 08.18.16

This past weekend, Matt and I journeyed down to Tacoma to walk Chambers Bay.  They have a fantastic trail that weaves through the golf course, with  stupendous views.  We have been undergoing quite a stretch of hot weather, so of course after a hiking for a few miles we worked up a thirst.  Luckily, there are plenty of good breweries in Tacoma.  We stopped in at Engine House Number 9.  They are on a quiet street, tree lined, with plenty of parking.  The brewery is next door, but the main space is in a former fire house, dating back to 1907.  The building itself is extraordinary, and historic.  But it’s also very comfortable and welcoming.  They’ve done a great job.  Now, on to the beer.  They carry a really wide variety of beers on tap, not just their own.  I had expected just their own, but there are plenty of offerings from from beers around the world.  Lots of different styles too.  I tried their American Pale Ale, and Matt had their Saison.  We really enjoyed sipping them on their tree shaded patio, even though the signs warned us to look out for falling chestnuts.  Our beer selections could not be more different, but we loved them both.  Matt bought several of their aged bottled beer on the way out.  They have food, are family friendly, and…the beer was really good!
