Lemmy Honored on German Postage Stamps

Deutsche Post has issued two postage stamps featuring Kilmister.

Lemmy Kilmilster, the late frontman of the pioneering heavy metal band Motörhead, has been honored by the German postal service. Deutsche Post has issued two postage stamps featuring Kilmister. The first is a close-up in which Lemmy is looking straight ahead and the second is a black-and-white shot of the rocker pointing at the camera. Both read “1945 – 2015” in the bottom left corner.

Only 7,777 stamps have been printed — a reference to Lemmy’s lucky seven — and they will only be available for four weeks, between May 17 and June 17. The German newspaper The Bild, which has a partnership with Deutsche Post, was instrumental in making the Lemmy stamps a reality.

“One stamp package contains 10 stamps, 5 Lemmy motives altogether and everyone can compile the stamps the way they like,” the paper said in a statement..”A great artist, a gentleman, an honest and loyal person, an icon for many and an inspiration for his fellow artists and fans.”
