Mike Gastineau:      SEAHAWKS LUCKY THINGS DIDN’T GET WORSE Read More

(KZOK via 1090 The Fan) – Court will be in session Friday night…Supreme Court that is.

Felix Hernandez will try to win his third game in as many starts Friday in front of a sea of bright yellow t-shirts as Safeco Field will be honoring “King Felix” for his first home start of the young 2014 campaign.

The opposition will be the Oakland Athletics, who only produced one run and six hits against Hernandez’s when he tossed 8 1/3 innings on Saturday. In two starts this season, Hernandez has thrown 14 1/3 innings while yielding just three earned runs, striking out 19 and walking two — and a 1.88 ERA to show for it.

“I’m going to attack the hitters the same way I did last time,” Hernandez said ahead of his Friday start. “If I have to make an adjustment, I’m going to make an adjustment.”

Hernandez has dominated Oakland over the course of his career, posting a 16-7 mark to go along with a 2.59 ERA in 30 starts.

Seattle’s offense will need to take it up a notch against Oakland’s starters who have combined for a 1.93 ERA this season so far. The A’s starters have only allowed three runs or fewer in all nine games.

If the Mariners can get to the bullpen quickly, they’ll have a chance to do some real damage. Oakland’s pen has been the team’s biggest weakness thus far. Jim Johnson, who was aquired from the Baltimore Orioles this offseason to be the team’s new closer, was recently removed from the role after manager Bob Melvin said Johnson would be “taking a break” from ninth inning duties. To date, Johnson is 0-2 with an 18.90 ERA in five games. He has just one save, blown a save and has walked six and yielded nine hits in 3 1/3 innings.
