“It’s as close as it’s ever been to happening.”
Those words came from The Kinks’ Ray Davies in a recent interview with UK magazine Uncut. And the optimism doesn’t stop with Ray. Brother and guitarist Dave Davies also said, it would be “a great shame” if the Kinks did not try to reunite for the band’s 50-year anniversary (happening in 2014).
“I think it would be nice to do something all together,” original drummer Mick Avory told the magazine. “Because the chances are diminishing as we talk. Hopefully me, Dave and Ray can meet before it happens. We’d have to knock our heads together and rehearse, if we meant to do it properly. We haven’t played together for God knows how long.”
The last public performance featuring both the Davies brothers was in 1996 for Dave’s 50th birthday party. The last time original drummer Mick Avory performed in the band was in 1984.
While the rumors have been swirling for the past six or seven years, it seems like the day may finally come in 2014.
