Muriel Whalley, a daughter of two British parents, enlisted in the US Women’s Army Corps in England.

She saw an “Uncle Sam wants you” poster more than seven decades ago and thought, “I’m a Yank, I was born in New Jersey.”

Whalley’s unit traveled through France during the war and into Germany following the advancing troops operating switchboards sending messages across the English Channel and all over the European Theater.
