The Van Halen News Desk, a website that somehow plants an image in our head of Monty Python’s John Cleese on the verge of saying “And now for something completely different…”, has posted a link to what guitarist Eddie Van Halen has been up to lately, and it’s not preparing for a tour with his band. He’s been working with rapper LL Cool J, guest-starring on two songs from his new album Authentic. Edward isn’t new to stepping outside his own box and crossing usual genres with his guitar. He added a typically blistering trademark Van Halen solo to Michael Jackson’s Beat It in 1983. For his part, LL Cool J’s 1990 hit Mama Said Knock You Out is about the most rockin’ rap song ever. Also contributing to Authentic are Earth Wind and Fire, Public Enemy’s Chuck D, Parliament/Funkadelic bass player Bootsy Collins, cannabis advocate Snoop Dogg, Rage Against The Machine’s Tom Morello, country music star Brad Paisley (!), Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker, and more.
