The Rolling Stones, Bill Graham, Jon Anderson and The Scorpions!

Tuesday Rocktober 25th, 2011  On this day in 1960…a 17 year-old Mick Jagger ran into his ‘ol school chum Keith Richards on a train, shared their mutual interest in R&B and music in general on that train ride, and the rest is…well uh…history.  Then 4 years later to the day in 1964, their band The Rolling Stones made their first appearance on the “Ed Sullivan Show.”  Afterward, letters from concerned parents floooded the CBS studios scolding the show’s producers for booking the band, but that didn’t stop CBS from having them on the show again a few months later.  It’s all about the ratings baby!

And sadly on this day in 1991, famed concert promoter Bill Graham (who also ran the legendary Fillmore East, and West) was killed in a helicopter crash near San Francisco.  He was 60 years old.

Birthdays!  Vocalist Jon Anderson of Yes, 67…Judas Priest guitarist Glenn Tipton, 63…Guitarist Matthias Jabs of the Scorpions, is 55.
